Message from the President (2022-2024)
On behalf of my colleagues in IPSHA schools across the nation, I warmly welcome you to the website of the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia (IPSHA).
IPSHA is an incorporated body, that provides access to an Australian wide collegial network of independent primary and middle school educators and leaders.
We aspire to:
- promote the unique nature and diversity of independent primary schools
- provide collegial support for members
- promote the national voice of independent primary schools
- deliver and facilitate quality professional learning opportunities
- provide educational opportunities for students
IPSHA evolved from small gatherings of Headmasters which met in an informal manner through the fledgling New South Wales Branch, which called itself the Junior Schools’ Conference in the early 1950s, to an association that today has over 380 Members across the six states of Australia. There are 85 Honorary Federal & State Life Members and Associates, as well as a number of Overseas Members. Members’ schools are now responsible for educating around 125,000 children.
IPSHA Members are firstly invited to join our association and connect throughout the year with their local State Branch, which is a subcommittee of IPSHA, through termly Branch Meetings, professional development and conference events. IPSHA members can also harness the benefits of a national association through our IPSHA website Forum, webinars and a biennial conference.
With a professional voice on matters pertaining to independent education through our formal relationships with peak educational bodies such as; the Australian Primary Principals Association (APPA) and the International Confederation of Principals (ICP), and numerous national and global education associations, IPSHA is well placed to ensure the needs of our students, schools and communities are clearly represented and argued.
We are also focussed on developing the school leaders of the future as well as supporting all current members in the Primary and Middle School leadership of Australian independent schools.
IPSHA greatly benefits from the generosity of national sponsorship, and we wish to acknowledge our partnerships with Furnware and Class Solver, along with The School Photographer, our Biennial National Conference sponsor.
Finally, as a members’ association, we are committed to supporting our colleagues through the warmth and generous manner of our collegiality, strong professional support and our respectful relations with each other.
IPSHA President (2022-2024)
